The historic centre and riverside conservation area carries Georgian townhouses, Victorian terraces and listed coaching-inn stock — soft brick, lime mortar, slate and clay tile. The post-war and modern development running south toward Hertford and east toward Wareside is more conventional — concrete tile roofs, UPVC roofline, brick-and-block construction. Both halves are regular work for us. We adapt approach: lime mortar and reclaimed brick on the conservation core, conventional materials on the modern stock.
