Overview
Plaster That Reads Flat. Render That Lasts.
Plaster is the single most-touched finish in your home — every wall, every ceiling, behind every painted surface. Done well, it reads dead flat under any light and provides a perfect substrate for decoration. Done badly, it telegraphs every undulation, every trowel mark, every patch through the paint — and there's no fixing it without going back to the plaster.
Our plastering scope covers internal skim coats over plasterboard, float-and-set on bare brickwork, full re-plasters as part of refurbishments, and external rendering — both modern through-coloured systems like K-Rend and traditional sand-and-cement render with paint finish.
Why It Matters
Why Bad Plastering Shows Through Forever
The visible failures of poor plastering are obvious in the wrong light — undulating surfaces, ridges where trowel passes weren't blended, hollows around socket cut-outs, drummy patches where the plaster has lost adhesion to the substrate. None of these can be hidden by paint or wallpaper — they show through every time.
External render failures are worse: cracking caused by inadequate beading, water ingress at junction details, blown patches where the render has lost adhesion, and pattern staining from algae growth on cheap render systems. Most external render that fails within ten years failed because the application skipped a fundamental step.

Technical Detail
Internal Plastering and External Rendering — Different Disciplines
Internal plastering divides into two main types. Skim coats over existing plasterboard or sound old plaster (the most common scope, typically 2–3mm finish coat). Float-and-set on bare brick or block (a thicker base coat 'float' to even out the substrate, then a finish 'set' coat — typical on new builds and full refurbishments). Both are finished with multiple trowel passes to close the surface.
External rendering divides between traditional and modern systems. Traditional sand-and-cement render is applied in scratch + finish coats and painted afterwards — long-established but requires repainting every 5–8 years. Modern through-coloured systems (K-Rend, Weber, Parex) are coloured throughout the render itself — no painting required, no maintenance cycle, but more sensitive to substrate prep and weather conditions during application.
External insulated render systems (EWI) are a separate specialism — adding insulation to the outside of the wall before rendering. Significant project, requires careful detailing at openings, and dramatically improves thermal performance of older solid-wall properties. Quote on request.
